Loyola FC 2 - Mt. St. Mary's 1
In their first match of the season, the Hounds were able to edge out a very game Mt. St. Mary's squad, 2-1, under the lights at Loyola. The home squad dictated the match for much of the first half, controlling the ball, dictating the tempo. But, the Hounds found themselves trailing 1-0 at half as they were unable to capitalize on their possession, and The Mount scored on their one chance of the half. Loyola came out strong in the second half, once again controlling the run of play. They would finally be rewarded when leftback Julian Saldana sent in perfect cross to the far post, where midfielder Corey "I am not as angry this year" Smith finished it with a beautiful diving header. Loyola continued to knock it around the pitch, keeping the visitors pinned in their half. With just under 10 minutes to play, the Hounds would find the game winner. Midfielder Sebastian "I always have a hot girl on my arm" Duque sent a great ball over the top where forward Xavier Williams one-timed a volley to the back of the net. It was a good win to open the season as Loyola FC has a lot of new faces on the squad. Next up, a round robin vs. Villanova and UMD on Saturday September 21st.
